Our Thanksgiving

To say our Thanksgiving started out chilly would be an understatement.  We woke up to weather that was -20* F.   Brrrrrrrrrrr.  Thankfully it didn’t stay that cold for days on end.  It just hung around for Thanksgiving day was all.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving day.  I got the turkey in the oven first thing in the morning and all of the other food I needed to make done early as well.  I just had to heat it up when we got to Shawn’s office building.  Talk about a low stress day.  It was fabulous.  I was kept wondering if there was something I had forgotten to do because it all seemed to easy.  And, having Thanksgiving at Shawn’s office building was a great idea.  There was plenty of room for everyone and the kids were able  to run around and play, I didn’t have to clean my house before and after, and the boys had football on a projection screen 10 times the size of our own t.v.  It was a win win for everyone.

We spent the rest of the weekend eating left overs, watching football and Netflix, relaxing, and playing card games.   The big kids were glad that it warmed up to 10 degrees yesterday so they could go skating outside.  They had a great time, and  I was happy to  enjoy a little alone time at the library while they skated and the littler kids were at home with dad.  All in all it was a great, stress free weekend, which was just what we all needed.  Thanksgiving At Our House II 64 Degrees North

Thanksgiving shopping list

I’ve got my lists made, my shopping done and I’m ready to start my Thanksgiving baking today.  I did my shopping yesterday and it was a mad house at the grocery store.  Hopefully, I have everything I need and I don’t have to go back today.  Heaven help me if I forgot something.

Holding with tradition, we are hosting Thanksgiving for Shawn’s family, but with 30 people coming for dinner our house is getting a little small.  So, this year we are having it at Shawn’s office building.  They have a big conference room there and a full kitchen.   I’m excited because we will have lots of room and I won’t have to do all the clean up afterward.  I’ve enlisted Tabetha and Hannah to come up with some minute-to-win-it games for everyone to play once dinner is over.

On the list to make today is:

  • Pumpkin Bread
  • Peanut butter Balls
  • Pumpkin Pies
  • Orange Lemon Jello

On my list tomorrow

  • TURKEY!!!  Yum!
  • Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
  • Green Bean Casserole
  • Yams
  • Corn

Shawn’s mom and sisters are bringing the stuffing, rolls and more pies.  I’m so excited.  I love Thanksgiving!

What do you do for Thanksgiving?

Innocence

I look at these pictures of Hannah and I see such pure and simple innocence, the innocence that comes from being a child, and my heart yearns to stop time, so she can stay this way always.

Baby’s First Birthday

Okay, I know I’m a few months late posting these pictures, but what a fun year we have had with this handsome boy.  It’s hard to remember what life was like without him.  He has brought so much love and joy to our family, and it has been so much fun watching him grow.  Although I wish he would stay little forever.  Just saying.

Homebody

Afternoon at Home

I consider myself a homebody.    Home is my favorite place to be.  In fact, there are a certain number of hours each day I feel I must be home in order to function properly.  There are also a certain number of hours I feel I need to be home in order to make my house run properly, and when I’m not at home enough, things quickly descend into chaos and I don’t operate well in chaos.   When the big things like the laundry don’t get done,  the house doesn’t get clean,  and  my kids are grouchy from being off their normal schedules, I become  a mad woman.   Also, when I’m not at home,  I  don’t have time to do the little things that naturally,  make things run smoother, like making out a menu and a grocery list.  Without a grocery list I can not  function at the grocery store.  I’m like a crazy person grabbing random things off the store shelves with no rhyme or reason.  I get home and realize I just spent $300 on groceries and still don’t have anything that can be put together to resemble any kind of an eatable meal.  And, this is how my life has been the last couple of months.  Mad, wild, crazy woman, with wild, crazy kids, because I have been shuttling big kids here and there and everywhere, and never staying at home.  My sanity has been suffering, my house has been suffering, and my family has been suffering.  And, just when I couldn’t take it any more, and I was worried my husband was going to have to have me committed, Tabetha got her drivers license and I got my life back.  My world has changed for the better.   I’ve been home 3 afternoons in the last week, and I feel like I can breathe again.  Life is good and my house is slowly getting put back together.
