Hey, Good Lookin’ What Ya Got Cookin’

Moments 178-179

Last week, Logan wanted to make biscuits, right before it was time to go to piano lessons.   I told him he could make them when we got home to go along with dinner.  Mya was so thrilled to help him and told me that she was so happy to, “have some dough of her own”.  I thought the homemade biscuits would go along great with the bean soup I was making for dinner.  Well, for  some reason my pressure cooker, which can cook beans in 30 minutes as opposed to 3 hours, wasn’t working correctly, steam and bean juice were shooting out all over the place.  I shut it off before the lid could blow off and shoot beans all over the kitchen.   Without, the pressure cooker the bean soup wouldn’t be ready to eat until around 8 o’clock.

I broke the news to Shawn that we  had nothing for dinner and he said he would take care of it.  He called in an order for pizza, ran over and picked it up, and we had biscuits and pizza for dinner. collage biscuits1 collage biscuits2

While he was out picking up the pizza Shawn stopped by the store and got the ingredients for a recipe he had seen posted on my facebook page one night.  I looked up the recipe for him  we had “Apple Pie Bites.”  for dessert.   MMmmm,  mmmmm,  mmmm, mmmm, mmmm.  Are they ever good.  (recipe here).  We added whip cream to ours and of course that added to the yummyness.  collage apple dessert

KateLynn Had a Birthday, Shout Hooray!

Moment 177.

KateLynn had birthday this month and is 7 years old.  My how fast they grow.

KateLynn birthday001

KateLynn has sure grown up this past year. She is a great big sister and just loves being a little mother to Camdon. She has a big heart and is such a sweetheart. She is the first one on the scene to see if she can help if anyone is hurt or sick. She is also Hannah and Mya’s protector when it comes to killing spiders or ridding the room a big bug of some kind.

KateLynn is incredibly artistic and she says she wants to be an artist when she grows up. She is always painting, drawing or creating something. I introduced her to a hot glue gun this summer, and her creations have taken on a whole new dimension. Most of the art she creates she gives away to her family and friends as gifts.

Here are a Few of  her Favorite Things

Favorite Food: Pizza
Color(s): Red
Primary Song: I Love to See The Temple
Game: Matching Game
Friends: Lasette, Simon, Skyler, Hunter, Robert
Book: Puff the Magic Dragon
Movie: Lion King II
Scripture Story: Nephi got the plates of Brass
Soda: Root Beer
Candy Bar: Chocolate
Family Activity: Watch t.v. together
Animal: Giraffe
What do you want to be when you grow up: A Vet
What makes you happy? My family

For each of my children this year I wanted to do a photo shoot of them somewhere that show a bit about them and who they are.   I thought and thought about where I could do a photo shoot with Katie and realized that she is most herself, and I will always remember her at this age, sitting at the kitchen table doing her art projects.  She loves art and the paint stains on the table prove it.

1000 Moments: Moments 170-176

Thanks for joining me as I document 1000 moments that have brought me joy as a wife and mother.

170. I love KateLynn’s art work.  She is always at the table creating something.  I taught her how to use the hot glue gun a couple of months ago, and that has opened up a whole new world to her, that and googlie eyes.

171.  Tabetha helped the little girls make a chain so they could keep track of how many days until KateLynn’s birthday, Tabetha’s birthday, and Christmas day.  They take a link off every day and count the ones left over and over and over.DSC_0551

172. Tabetha got her braces off, Yah!        173.  And, she let me take her picture, TWICE, in one day!

174.  Mya loves to play with our nativity sets.  We have 4 different ones and she is always playing with one.

Check out this short video  of Stephanie Nielson speaking at the Utah first lady’s ball where she shares her love and passion for motherhood.  She is such an inspiration to me, because she finds so much joy and satisfaction in being a mother.

1000 Moments ~ At it Again

I’m back to posting my 1000 moments of joy.  1000 Moments of Joy is a personal project to document 1000 moments in my life that have brought me joy.  For me, it’s about taking the time to recognize and acknowledge all the blessings I have in my life and to focus on the joy in my life instead of the negative.  I’m so excited to be continuing on.  (To see my previous moments click here)  Hopefully, I will be posting my weekly moments each Monday.  It was fun for me to think over my week about what had brought me joy, and to take the time to write them down.    It brought a smile to my face as I thought of each of my children and the cute things they had said and  little things they had done for each other.  I was watching and noticing, and my heart was taking pictures all week-long even if my camera wasn’t.

I decided to start where I left off on my last blog instead of starting over, so that brings us to:

162.  Mya wasn’t feeling well one day and was laying on the couch.  KateLynn pulled up a chair next to her, held her hand and sang her a primary song.

163.  KateLynn pretending to heat a snuggle buddy up for herself, and then giving it to Hannah as a surprise.  (At our house a snuggle buddy is a rice bag that we heat in the microwave and use it to keep us warm at night or to cuddle when we are sick.)

164. Shawn made his super-duper scrambled eggs for us for dinner.

165.  Shawn making KateLynn her own over-easy egg for dinner when she said she didn’t like scrambled eggs.  (Usually, it’s “you get what you get” at this house.)

166.  Seeing how excited the kids are for Christmas, and helping Mya write a letter to Santa.

167.  One day last week, I wasn’t feeling well and was laying down.   Logan got me a glass of water and a pillow, and offered to get me a blanket, and he came to me several times and asked me if I needed anything else.

168.  We were on our way to town on Friday, and I had the radio turned to the 24hr. Christmas music station.  We were almost to the store when Hannah said that Mya was crying.  I hadn’t heard any arguing or fighting going on, and I couldn’t think of anything that had happened since we had gotten in the car that would hurt her feelings or make her cry.  I asked her why she was sad and what was wrong.  She said, “I’m not crying because I’m sad.  I’m crying because I’m happy Jesus was born.”   Oh, Holy Night was playing on the radio and she said that it was such a pretty song it made her cry.  It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

I love these pictures.

They make me happy.

I’m glad I took the time to snap a couple photos of a chubby baby and his big sister.

Four years ago, I started blogging what I called  “1000 Moments of Joy”. (You can see them on my old blog here) It was a way for me to recognize and record the little moments in my life that brought me joy.  I found that as I looked for and recorded those little moments, my life was filled with even more joy and I appreciated my role as a wife and mother so much more.

In this month of Thanksgiving, I have been trying to see and recognize  more of the blessings my Heavenly Father has given me.  I’ve noticed that when I take the time to consciously, acknowledge and recognize my blessings, I’m filled with such gratitude and joy for all I have and for the little tender mercies in my life.   It’s so easy for me to get caught up in all the must dos during the day that I fail to acknowledge so many blessings and so many little moments that could bring me such  joy, if I just took a second to appreciate them.

That is why I have decided to start recording my 1000 Moments of Joy again.  I haven’t worked out all of the particulars yet, but once a week, probably on Sundays,  I will be blogging moments from throughout the week that have brought me joy.   I’m hoping it will help me be more aware of my many blessings and the joys in my life.

Check back again soon.
